How To Store A Custom Mattress

Sleep is an essential human activity. It plays a vital role in our physical health and mental well-being. Getting adequate enough sleep has numerous benefits, including improving your physical and mental health, quality of life, alertness and focus.

Doctors agree that we should get a healthy average of seven to nine hours of sleep each night. This is over a third of our daily lives spent lying down and asleep. This adds up to a lot of time spent on a surface you ideally enjoy. A component of a healthy sleep space is keeping everything in tiptop shape. Custom-made and natural mattresses may be a bit expensive but they contribute a lot to the overall quality of your sleep. The myriad of benefits this allows are more than worth it.

This is why we should know how to properly put away and store our mattresses, especially when we are not using them. When you don’t use mattresses, they are more susceptible to damage, especially when storing them carelessly. It is advisable that you store your mattresses in storage facilities to ensure their safety. Here are some steps on how to properly store your mattresses in a storage facility.

Climate Control

Climate control is one of the amenities that a self-storage facility offers. If you are storing a mattress inside your home, you should definitely be using a climate-controlled room. All mattresses are prone to mold due to the inner components. Mold is also unhealthy for you when you use them again.

Climate control is not just for your mattresses. You can easily store clothing, books, furniture, and electronics without putting them in danger. As storage facilities with climate control are Indoor-type storage facilities, you can be assured that your items will also be protected from flooding, pests, and potential break-ins.

If you are also storing your metal frames, make sure that you disassemble the bed. Not only will this save space but also protect your bed frames from accidental damage.

Before you store your bed, you should make sure that you clean it first. Vacuum your mattress after cleaning it for good measure. Foam has millions of air pockets and mold can move pretty quickly once given the opportunity. Even if the outside seems clean, the inside may not be. There are a handful of sicknesses that you can get just from the mold inside your bed. Mold creates spores that can end up in your lungs resulting in major health complications. Mattresses with a major mold issue is not an ideal bed and there is virtually no way to remove mold so you would have to throw them away. Make sure that you properly dispose of your mattresses.

Transport Properly

Transportation of your items is quite important. You do not just stuff everything inside your car. This will be problematic as it is unsafe for your items as your car is not equipped with the proper storage for your mattresses. Often, this forces owners to store them on top of the car which could lead to your mattress flying off to the side of the road. We recommend looking for a Man and Van company. Not to worry though as most Storage facilities are partnered with Man and Van companies which can help make your move easier. A proper moving van will also ensure that you do not get dust or any other foreign material on your items.

Store Mattresses Flat

Mattresses are not just made of foam. Inside are coils, padding, and springs which may get damaged when you store the mattress on its side. Mattress experts all agree that gravity will permanently distort your mattresses causing it to look misshapen. Store your mattresses flat on the ground or on top of boxes. While this may require a bigger storage facility, it is worth it especially if your custom mattresses cost hundreds or thousands of dollars, and you’re not keen on spending that amount again. An uneven mattress will also bring in a lot of discomforts as you will not get the optimal shape for sleeping.

Don’t Put Anything On Top Of It

Only bodies should be on top of mattresses, not items. One common mistake of store owners is that they stack everything on top of each other. It goes without saying that you should not stack items on your mattresses as it will permanently change its shape.

Use A Mattress Cover

This may sound a bit like a piece of basic advice but it is worth stating. Buying a plastic cover for your mattresses prohibits dust and other foreign objects from getting on your mattresses. Dust and Moisture are just two things that you do not want on your mattresses. Plastic covers are inexpensive but the protection they bring is more than worth it.
