Snoring: How Can I Prevent It and Can an Adjustable Bed Help?

Oh, snoring – one of the biggest obstacles that stand between you and a good night’s sleep. No matter if it’s you or your partner, snoring can get old really quickly. It’s only normal that you want to do something about it.

Don’t worry, we’re here for you. We’ll do all in our power to help you prevent snoring, or to help your partner deal with it. Sometimes, the solution is a trip to the doctor’s office. Other times, it’s a new split king adjustable bed base. Whatever it is, we’ll get to the bottom of it.

What is the best position to sleep to prevent snoring

What is the best position to sleep to prevent snoring?

First thing we would like to say is that you should try several sleeping positions out, and see which ones help you snore less. What works for one person might not for somebody else, and sleeping comfort is always quite an individual matter.

However, we don’t mean to say that there aren’t a couple of sleeping positions that even the pundits at American Academy of Sleep Medicine would advise you to try out:

  1. The fetus – When you sleep in this position, you lie on your side, tuck your legs towards your stomach, and place your arms in front of your face. Although it doesn’t seem that way, this sleeping position will elongate your spine, alleviating acid reflux and reducing snoring.
  2. The log – This sleeping position is extremely simple, but highly effective when it comes to reducing snoring. You just lie on your side with your whole body straight. This position takes the stress off your spine, which reduces snoring.

What sleeping positions should I avoid if I have trouble snoring?

As we’ve seen, there are some sleeping positions that will help you snore less. However, there are also some sleeping positions you should stay away from if your snoring is becoming a bit too much:

  1. The starfish – Although the starfish position is great for alleviating neck and back pain, it’s not exactly suitable for preventing snoring. You lie on your back with your arms resting on the pillow, and your legs stretched in front of you. Don’t sleep like this.
  2. The soldier – Soldier is another simple sleeping position, but one that actually worsens snoring, so you should definitely avoid sleeping on your back with your arms tight to your body, and your legs outstretched.

Are there any more anti-snoring tips and tricks?

If you’re already asking, we’ll give you three easy tricks you can try immediately:

  1. Place something soft under your skin before you fall asleep. Snoring can occur because of the loose skin around your neck. If you place a tiny pillow or your hand beneath your chin, the skin will firm up, reducing snoring. However, this is not a good method for uneasy sleepers.
  2. You can also try propping your abdomen up by placing a pillow underneath you. This increases comfort, sure, but it also reduces strain and opens up your airways to make breathing easier.
  3. Finally, try elevating your head a bit by either placing a pillow or by trying out an adjustable bed. If you keep your head elevated when sleeping, you will relieve potential nasal congestion you might be suffering from.

How can I sleep with my husband snoring?

Love’s got nothing to do with it, let’s first get that clear. Everybody deserves a good night’s sleep, which can be difficult to attain when sleeping next to a snoring partner. That is why we’re giving you some advice on how to be better rested next to a partner who snores.

How do I sleep next to a person who snores?

  1. Early night

Get to bed before your partner does. This will save you the anxiety of dreading every inhale, while also allowing you to fall asleep before your partner starts snoring.

  2. Tennis ball

OK, this one’s a bit out there, but if you sew half a tennis ball onto the back of your partner’s pyjamas, it will be quite uncomfortable to sleep on the back, and we all know sleeping on the back makes snoring even louder!

  3. White noise

A white noise machine can help you create a much more relaxing atmosphere by drowning out the sounds of your partner snoring.

  4. Recordings

If you’ve ever heard that famous sentence “I don’t snore!”, it’s time for some tough love. Record your partner’s snoring, play it, and start finding solutions together.

  5. Ear plugs

If all else fails, you can always turn to good old ear plugs. They’re not exactly what you’d call comfortable, but try to find the ones that suit you.

  6. Doctor

Sometimes, snoring can be caused by an underlying medical condition. Speak with your partner and schedule an exam.

Does an adjustable bed help snoring

Does an adjustable bed help snoring?

Oh yes, it does. Adjustable beds are so good at reducing snoring, that they should be your number 1 purchase if either you or your partner snore the night away. They can assume any position and provide a snore-free night.

What’s more, there are now split king adjustable bed variants, meaning that you and your partner can both adjust the bed to a perfect sleeping position. And, with that, proper sleep will come.

How does an adjustable bed help reduce snoring?

Here are the top three ways adjustable beds help prevent or reduce snoring:

  1. Adjustability – The name says it all – you can keep adjusting your bed until you find the sleeping position that reduces or eliminates snoring.
  2. Distribution – By adjusting the bed to a position that suits you, you will better distribute your weight, minimizing pressure on your spine, alleviating snoring.
  3. Relief – Finally, if your nose is stuffy, you will definitely snore through the night. There are positions that are perfect for finding relief from sinusitis.
